About us
Who we are
Joining a camping community in the UK, such as the South Lancashire District Association (SLDA), offers a plethora of benefits for outdoor enthusiasts. Our community provides a platform to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for exploring the great outdoors and creating lasting memories. Members can enjoy organized meets throughout the year, where they can socialize, exchange camping tips, and build friendships that extend beyond the campfire.
Being part of a camping community also opens doors to new camping locations, insider knowledge on the best spots to visit, and a sense of belonging to a supportive and welcoming group. Whether you are a seasoned camper or a beginner looking to embark on new adventures, joining a camping community in the UK enriches the overall camping experience and creates a sense of camaraderie that makes every trip more enjoyable.
What is Social or DA camping?
DA camping, who are they and what is it?, well, when you join the Camping and Caravanning Club, you are automatically assigned to a District Association (DA) in your local area, this is shown on your membership card provided by the club. All DA’s are run by a group of enthusiastic camping volunteers who arrange meets typically in your local area, There are many DA’s up and down the country forming a network of meets all over the UK and beyond, all year round. These meets vary from a quiet weekend meet, Bank holiday meets, 5 day meets and longer Temporary Holiday sites (THS), some have special significance such as Halloween, Kings birthday, Feast of Lanterns, Easter, New Year etc, some have local fun and games, such as Bingo, Quizzes, Dog shows, Stalls & Raffles etc and some may also have professional artists, singers, Bands etc.
As a member of the club you can join any meet, with any DA, anywhere in the country. To do this, download and login to the Out and About app to view all the meets and view specific information relating to each meet. We also recommend checking out the websites of each DA and joining the Facebook group for your preferred DA’s. This also provides the most up to date information such as cancellations etc.
All meets will have a Steward on site for the duration of the meet to check you in, take payments and generally manage the meet and can provide local information on the area, provide help if needed. Some meets are “Booked Meets”, if you wish to attend one of these please contact the steward to get on the list, meets are usually “booked” when spaces at the location are limited.
As said above, meets are held all over the country, a meet can be held anywhere, ranging from a farmers field, village hall car park, School field to a registered campsite, Most of these are arranged in beautiful locations with easy access to the local towns, as the locations vary so do the ground conditions ranging from Grass to gravel and hardstanding. There is always somewhere to go to and see and visit when using the DA meets.
All meets provide the minimum of drinking water and a ELSAN (waste) point. Some sites may have WC and shower facilities or even electricity.
Meet start times are typically 12 noon on the 1st day, and end at 12 noon on the last day, but these can vary, check the Out and About app or with the steward.
Directions to meets are sometimes specific and these instructions and maps can be found on each meet in the Out and About app or on the DA website. We do not take responsibility for the post codes being correct. These may take you to the landowners property and not the meet site.
Cost, the cost of each meet can vary and is shown on the Out and About app for each meet, but typically it is between £7 and £20 pupn.
You can attend any AGM meet for any DA, but you only have voting rights at your designated DA’s AGM. AGM’s are held once per year, Don’t forget your membership card for entry to a AGM. Alternatively your membership card can be displayed on the SIte Seeker App where you can also find all the CCC sites.
We have used the term ”meet” on here as a meeting of like minded people, but you will also see or hear the term “Rally, THS or Event”, they are all the same!
Rules for DA camping and be found in the CCC club information or ask your steward.
Remember we are all volunteers, from the Steward to the Chairperson. So please be kind and courteous, abuse of any nature will not be tolerated.
